Attention: All Authors

October 30, 2012

If you aren’t an author, you may find this boring,  but I still welcome you to read my big news.

Last week, I signed my book up on Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing. On Saturday and Sunday, it was listed for free. Now, we have all been wondering about how well those books signed to KDP do. Well, to my surprise on Saturday my book, Big Backpack–Little World, showed 4,000 people down-loaded it. In complete shock, I would check it hourly, and in amazement watch the numbers climb. When I finally went to bed on Sunday night it had an incredible number of 7,000 downloads. The final tally is 7,975 free downloads.

What does this do for me and my book? I have no idea. Perhaps, everyone in the world that wanted to read it, now has it for free? Perhaps, I will get hundreds of reviews, or maybe none? I’m hoping for the best, but we will wait and see.

Here is what happened to my Kindle rating on Sunday October 28th. Big Backpack–Little World

That’s good to know. I was curious what putting a book up for free would do. I think in the next couple weeks or month you should write a follow up post to see if your sales after Sunday were affected. If nothing else, maybe it will build up your name as an author so some of those people who got your book for free will buy a second one from you! It’d be interesting to find out how it pans out for you in the long run.

I will update it, and thanks for reading the post. I have already seen a few more book sales. Yippee!

Hi, Because you asked for an update on what happened after the 7,975 downloads. I will tell you that after one month, I have only received a couple of reviews, but my sales have skyrocketed. Plus, the books borrowed have added about $300.00 dollars to my pocket. I feel certain the increases in sales were due to KDP, because there is no other reason.
Yes, I am one happy woman with everything that took off. I still have people question why I would give away 8,000 books, but this month I get to go to the bank with a nice check in hand, and I hope I made some happy readers.
      Thanks for your inquiring mind.
